I have four items to highlight in this weekend enote.
First, thanks again for your incredible response to our Care & Share Toy & Food Drive last Sunday. You donated 8,500 pounds of food and toys, enough to bless hundreds of families in our community! Kudos also to Grant Wright and his stellar team of volunteers who donated many hours of hands on service loading, unloading, organizing, etc.
Second, our Service of Remembrance will be held in our Chapel this Sunday at 4:00pm. Dr. Virgil Fry leads this service in such a beautiful way. It is designed to honor our deceased loved ones during this Christmas season. It is a service where tears are welcome, grief is expressed, hope is affirmed and a measure of healing is available. There will be music, Bible readings, prayer, a lighting of a memorial candle and, if you so choose, the mentioning of names of those being remembered. Refreshments are available after the service and all are welcome.
Third, I’d like to make a very big ASK of you and prompt you to consider a generous end of year financial gift to our church. I know you are asked often to give to various nonprofits. Martha and I are as well. In America today, there are over 1.8 million nonprofit organizations, and over one million of these are 501(c)(3)s. Just ten years ago there were 600,000 501(c)(3)s. Each year finds the number of nonprofits in America growing by anywhere from 5 to 7 percent. I encourage you to be as generous as you can but in your generosity I hope you will not overlook your local church.
It’s the local church that week in and week out is the tangible Body of Christ in this world and our church continues to make such a consistent difference for Jesus in the six classic disciplines of balanced church ministry: worship; prayer; discipleship; evangelism; fellowship; & service. All of these ministries touch a wide range of ages.
If you are able, we would appreciate your prayerful consideration of a year-end financial gift. All of us together, doing our part, make a huge difference in fueling the ministry of Christ’s church. God is doing great things all around the world, including here in your own church family, and I consider it an honor to be a part of this congregation with you!
Fourth, be sure to check our website for our holiday schedule of service times.
Merry Christmas from Martha, me and our entire family,
