Hello Everyone:

Alan Robertson of A & E’s Duck Dynasty coming to FCCC.  I am so pleased to announce that Alan Robertson of A & E’s top rated Duck Dynasty show will be our guest speaker for our Super Sunday Bring A Friend Day on February 2, 2014.  Alan is the oldest of the four Robertson sons (Alan, Jase, Willie & Jep) and he will be right at home with us since he is an elder at the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, LA and for several years was their Preaching Minister.  He now works full-time in the family business.  Alan is an exceptional speaker with great warmth and plenty of family stories.  His Super Sunday Bring A Friend Day topic will be Faith, Family and Ducks.

Fifty years ago today, November 22, 1963, two “Jacks” died.  President John F. Kennedy (called “Jack” by his family) was assassinated in Dallas and British author C.S. Lewis (also called “Jack” by his friends and family) died from renal failure at his English home just one week shy of his 65th birthday.

Much will be on TV tonight about President Kennedy’s life and tragic death, but perhaps it is also appropriate as Christians to reflect on the life of C.S. Lewis, who is described by many as the 20th century’s most influential Christian intellectual and apologist. Today, in London’s Westminster Abbey, a memorial stone for Lewis will be added to the storied Poets’ Corner alongside the likes of Shakespeare and John Milton.

Many Christians are first introduced to Lewis at an early age with The Chronicles of Narnia, a place where it is “always winter, but never Christmas.” For adults, his most influential work wasMere Christianity, where he argued that Jesus was either a lunatic, liar or Lord and each of us has a decision to make.

Grief Support Group.  As we come into the holiday season, I’m grateful that Dr. Virgil Fry and Jim Hughes will lead a four-week Grief Support Group that begins this Sunday at 9:45 in room D234.

Care & Share Food & Toy Drive.  In just a couple of weeks, on Sunday, December 8, we will participate in our annual Care & Share Food & Toy Drive benefiting our Fort Bend County friends who may need a little extra help this time of year. Bring a sack of goodies to church and during our services we will collect your donations.  Thanks in advance.

Michael Rhodes is on deck this weekend.  Michael Rhodes, who serves on our Youth Ministry Staff, will be speaking in both services this weekend on the topic Mission and Morality.  I will be here and I hope to see you.

Have a terrific weekend,

Ronnie
