Christ in the Passover

March 7, 2012 — 2 Comments

Rabbi Ron will be teaching in our UPLIFT service at church tonight.  “Rabbi Ron” is not an alias of mine, but an acquaintance and brother of mine who happens to be a Messianic Jew, serving at Congregation Beth Messiah.  Ron Aaronson is his full name and he is a class act.

I’ve been teaching through the story of Exodus on Wednesday nights and just last week we walked through the Passover episode, where the judgment of God “passed over” anyone who had applied the blood of the sacrificed lamb to their doors.  From that momentous act of deliverance, God inaugurated the Passover Meal which celebrates this climactic event.  The Passover Meal has been celebrated for 3500 years and Messianic Jews (Jews who accept Jesus as Lord & Savior) still celebrate the Passover but they do so with Jesus as the central figure.

Tonight, Rabbi Ron will give us a visual demonstration of a Passover Meal and everyone will actually see a table set with traditional Passover items.  Ron will use Scripture as well as the visual items to walk through a Jewish Passover Seder (a term that means “order”), weaving the story of the Exodus together with the life, death and resurrection of Christ.

The Passover narrative is a story of deliverance from bondage by a merciful God who knows His people and does not forget His promises — a story of hope at a time when there seemed to be none.

Consider yourself invited. Hope to see several of you tonight.
